In September 2009 we decided to add to our livestock and set about buying some cattle. After looking at several breeds we decided to buy the Angus a breed that is second to none for producing quality beef.
One of the factors that came into play as to where we would purchase these animals were bloodlines. Many of the modern Angus today carry a considerable amount of Imported blood and I wanted to purchase animals that were as close to the original lines as possible, After talking with a few breeders I was given the name of a local breeder Mr and Mrs M Collins. After further research we discovered that Mr Collins had won the best large herd in the South West for the last four years which speaks for it’s self.
We went to meet Mr Collins and the Trewavas Herd and were very impressed with both. Mr Collins was an absolute gentleman who cared for his cattle, knew his breeding and gave us some good advice.
We bought four animals two steers for fattening and two heifers to breed from. As soon as the heifers are old enough we will get them either mated to a good bull or use A I. Hopefully something without imported lines.
